About Studio Z Architecture
Studio Z Architecture was established in 1997 by Dawn Zuber, AIA, to provide professional architectural services for homeowners in Southeast Michigan. Studio Z Architecture specializes in residential remodeling, additions, and custom home design.
Studio Z services include master planning, design, construction documents, construction administration, and assistance with contractor selection.
About Dawn Zuber, AIA
Dawn Zuber, AIA, has been providing professional architectural services since 1986. Past projects include residential, commercial, health care, entertainment, and retail architecture.
Zuber is a licensed architect in Michigan and Ohio. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), and the National Association of Home Builders. She currently serves as president of NARI of Southeast Michigan. She is also chair of the planning committee for Remodel Green, an annual conference and expo in southeast Michigan.
In 2000, Zuber was president of the Huron Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. In addition, she has served on the boards of directors of the Michigan Society of the American Institute of Architects, the Michigan Architectural Foundation, and the Washtenaw Remodelors Council. She was a founding member of the Green Building Committee at the Home Builders Association of Washtenaw County and served as co-chair of that committee for three years. She founded the Green Remodeling Committee at NARI of Southeast Michigan in 2006 served as its chair for one year. Zuber has spoken about green building techniques and residential design issues to local groups. She taught several sections of the NARI Green Education Program for remodeling professionals in spring 2007.
In 1985, Zuber started working as an intern architect through the cooperative education program at the University of Cincinnati. As part of this program, she worked for architectural firms in Cincinnati, Nashville, Minneapolis, Boston, and London. These firms specialized in projects ranging from shopping malls, small retail establishments, and medical office buildings to custom homes and residential remodeling.
From 1991 to 1994, she worked as a commercial architect for two Cincinnati-based architecture firms. Besides completing several bank, office, and retail projects, she was project architect for two restaurants at Paramount's Kings Island, an amusement park north of Cincinnati.
In 1994, Zuber moved to Michigan, joining an Ann Arbor-based residential architecture firm. She was project architect for several remodeling projects as well as a number of custom homes. For the year prior to the establishment of Studio Z Architecture, she was an architect with a commercial architecture firm in Ann Arbor. One major project was the million-dollar renovation of Stone School, including the transformation of a classroom to a state-of-the-art chemistry and physics laboratory, conversion of all restrooms to handicap-accessible facilities, and extensive cosmetic renovations.
As owner of Studio Z Architecture, Zuber combines an extensive knowledge of residential construction and green building practices with a high level of personal service, providing comprehensive, custom residential architectural services for her clients.
